Matters of the Heart.

A few weeks ago I ordered earrings from an online boutique called Etsy and they finally came in! The teal heart studs are fueling my mint obsession. The other day at Starbucks the barrista commented on how my sweater, nails and earrings all matched...I should be embarrassed but I'm not. (Essie Mint Candy Apple has been in my life for about a year and a half now. Perfectly on trend this season if you're looking for a nail color.)

This week was what we call "senior celebration" for the sorority. The last chapter is dedicated to the seniors and they each stand up and talk about their college experience and what being a member of Gamma Phi has meant to them. They pass out letters and gifts to friends, there is a lot of laughter and a lot of tears. At the end there is a slideshow of pictures of them throughout the years which is always comical, and then we do a ritual that sends them off into alum status.
It's terribly sad and ominous for what is to come. Their speeches inspired my purchase today. The above quote has always been a favorite quote of mine and now I have it in my room as a reminder.

And a few pictures of Beau never hurt anyone's feelings ;)

Best,
-Lo.

More Like The Unlucky One...

Well ladies and... gentlemen? I just returned home from seeing The Lucky One.

As I'm sure you can recall my excitement over this film from a recent post, you can imagine my anticipation.

I should have known what I was in for by the lack of exciting previews that normally precede chick flicks.

Is it just me, or is there a real lack of great chick flicks lately? First the lackluster I felt for The Vow and now The Lucky One?

I felt the story had little to no plot. Maybe they left things out from the novel but I'm thinking since the film was only 1.5 hours there was pleeenty of wiggle room to add detail.

Also, I'm all for a predictable plot line but a girl needs a few twists here and there.

There was hardly any conflict that needed resolution. And if we are going off of conflict on a Nicholas Sparks scale (which we are because it was his book turned movie) the conflict was absolutely nonexistent.

No conflict. No cancer. No sweet southern accents... Nicholas. Where you at??

I found Beth (Taylor Schilling) to be flat, no pun intended, (homegirl has no lady love up top) and to be honest a little awkward. I did not enjoy her acting, I thought it to be very uninspiring. Despite my love for theater and acting, you know it's bad when you find yourself thinking "I could play this better." Because realistically I dont' think I could but she had me believing I should start sending out my headshot and resume.

...Maybe I'm being harsh because I had high expectations....

On the other hand, Zac Efron looked amazing. I always enjoy him on camera and I think he's got pretty decent acting skills. I always believe him and wind up forgetting and forgiving him for dating Vanessa Hudgens for so damn long.

My only complaint is that his shirt only came off once the whole movie. AND it wasn't even during the sex scene... *gasps*

If I may be honest, which I may because this is my blog, I didn't pay $7.50 to watch Zac Efron do a clothed "love scene"... sorry.

All in all, Efron was gorgeous, the little boy in the film is absolutely darling, the grandmother provides much needed comic relief, the nature shots were stunning and there were 2 scenes with bulldogs in it.

Am I glad I saw it? Yes. Would I see it again in theaters? No. Should I have just waited until I could rent it? Probably. Will I rent it when it comes on iTunes? Debatable.

There's my two cents. Well...$7.50 I suppose.

Maybe I should have read the book first? I hope if you see it or have seen it that your opinion was higher than mine. I hate seeing films I don't like...but that's what makes the world go 'round I suppose.

Not at all really but you get the picture...

Still Efron's biggest fan,
-Lo.

Jumbled Monday.

In case you're curious...

1. If you use a PC, I'm probably not interested.
2. I'm thinking of changing my Twitter handle to "HainesHerWay".
3. Why do people no longer sound the way FDR sounded when he spoke?
4. I don't understand the point of decaf coffee. Maybe that clarity will come after college.
5. Every time I type/read/say (in my head) "for example" I say it in spanish.
6. The ultimate female anthem is "Super Woman" by Alicia Keys. Get it girl.
7. I have yet to hear a decent explanation of the difference between affect and effect. You're welcome to take a gander at thus that hath betwixt me.

Good day.

Send For Help.

Today was a yucky day. I wish I could get a do-over. I hate wasting days on stress and bad moods but other times I think it's unavoidable. I so wish I could be one of those people that just rolls with whatever card they are dealt for the day, but I internalize and worry and then take it out on my poor mom.
I am one of those people however, once I've exhausted myself from the stress and the fuss, am able to light a candle, blare my music, take a hot shower and put a pretty outfit on; and all is well with the world.

Side Note: What is it about showers? I feel like a brand new, better person when I come out of there. It's like a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory effect. I'm new and improved and ready to move on when I come out. Am I alone in this??

And that's exactly what I did today. So I guess I kind of got a do-over. But not really...

But I did get to wear a fab outfit to chapter: Red maxi skirt, white tank top, with a jean vest and leopard sandals. Accessories: Gold.

And now I'm here, at my beloved Starbucks typing a paper I should have done ages ago... Wish me luck my dear readers... but if worse comes to worse...

send for help.

Always,
Lo.

Monday Music

Right Now:

Florence+ the Machine: Leave My Body from her Ceremonials album.
-This whole album is phenomenal if you're in the right mood. The musicality is genius and her voice is mesmerizing, giving  me a sort of rush that I wish I could communicate.

Tyler Hilton: Leave Him from his new album Forget The Storm.
-I "discovered" Tyler on one of my favorite TV series, One Tree Hill as Chris Keller. His acoustic work is more up my ally but I can never get my fill of his raspy vocals. His guitar and piano skills are quite sexy and blusey, which I love. I'm hoping he releases piano version of "Kicking My Heels" very, very soon.

Anticipation:

John Mayer's new album set to release May 22nd.
-He's been one of my favorite artists since he hit the scene back in 2001. He is one of the more talented guitar players my generation has seen, I just wish his reputation wasn't perceived so negatively.
-The preview of this album has a country/ rock flare. So I'm anxious to see what he has in store for us fans.

Enjoy your monday.

I Spy...

...two blind people sitting and talking with each other while their Seeing Eye dog's appeared to be visiting with each other as well. I lingered long enough to hear a bit of their conversation and they were each bragging about their love for their dogs. I don't know why, but I found this to be so sweet.

...A very small bird drag sticks over to a nearby tree. I looked up in the tree and there was the making of a very small nest! How exciting!

...A girl asking a boy in a wheelchair if he needed help while he was wheeling uphill.

...Auburn cheerleaders stopping to take a picture and sign a poster for a little boy who was clearly a fan.

....Every person, and I mean every person, saying thank you to the transit driver after we arrived on campus.

...Girls giving a classmate genuine praise over a drastic and new haircut.

In my opinion the past couple of days have been  beautiful in Auburn and I'm not just speaking about the weather. I witnessed some beautiful things and I've been itching to share them with you beautiful people.

I think we could all use a little reminder that there is so much kindness and beauty still in the world. Sometimes you just have to stop and look up :)

Be beautiful to one another!

Xx,
Lo.
